  • Test smoke alarms once a month including carbon monoxide alarms
  • Two ways out in case of emergency, clear paths of ice and snow
  • Visible house number
  • Incase of power outages have flashlights on hand and accessible
  • Prepare and learn about weather updates and storm warnings
  • Use generators outside, away from doors and windows
  • Report downed wires, and stay away
  • Be prepared if heat stops working
  • Make sure heaters are off when you go to bed

  • Limit or thin any flammable vegitation
  • Building with fire-resistant materials and using construction techniques can increase the chance of home survivability 
  • Thin branches or bushes overhanging over roof or into porches/decks to reduce ember ignition
  • Develop or discuss a plan incase of a wildfire emergency
  • Do not store flammable products by home or underneath porches/decks
  • Make sure your home and street names are visible

If Car is on fire:

  • Pull over as quickly as possible
  • Turn off engine when pulled over
  • Leave the vehicle, make sure everyone is out
  • Get atleast 100ft away and call for help

Preventing a Car fire

  • Service car regularly, keep well maintained
  • If travelling with gasoline, make sure it is in a certified can and is only a small amount
  • Propane or gas should never be stored in a compartment of the vehicle
  • Don't park car over something that is flammable where it could touch the catalytic converter
  • Driving safely

  • Any electrical work should be done by a professional 
  • When purchasing or renovating a home have it inspected
  • Have one heating appliance plugged in at a time
  • Major appliances should never be plugged into a power bar or extension cord
  • Arc-fault circuits can prevent dangerous electrical conditions 
  • Ground-fault circuits can prevent risk of shock
  • If you have Arc-fault or Ground-fault circuits, test them once a month
  • Electrical cords should not be running across doorways or under carpets, and extension chords are for temporary use
